Facilitator & workshops

Bring Encian to your team

Workshops and multi-session trainings for ECE programs and staff teams, grounded in inclusive, play-based classroom practice and in the ideas from Supporting Gender Diversity in Early Childhood Classrooms.

I design and facilitate workshops for schools and organizations wishing to support gender liberation and/or interrupt gender bias in their classroom and organizational culture, with a focus on early childhood settings. (I also collaborate on trainings about other anti-bias topics.)

As a white educator, I work only in partnership with or alongside BIPOC facilitators and speakers. This is because the gender bias we are trying to change in Western settler states is rooted in European colonial violence. I do not want to whitewash this history or presume that white folks can fix it on our own. I believe that while everyone is responsible for unpacking and shifting this bias, visions and pathways towards gender liberation must center — and compensate — BIPOC thinking, imagination and leadership. When gender diversity education is associated solely with whiteness, it is at the detriment of the children we are attempting to support.

Workshops

These are the kinds of workshops I do, and I can tailor them to your community:

Gender Liberation in Early Childhood, Parts 1 and 2

90 minutes – two hours per part

This is an introductory workshop series that can be given to staff or families, with different emphases.

I often give Parts 1 and 2 one week to one month apart, although it can be offered in a single three-(or more)-hour session in person, or a condensed 2.5-hour session online.

Part 1: “Shifting worldviews.” Participants unpack harms stemming from binary gender norms and find their own stake in gender liberation.

Part 2: “STAR of Supporting Children's Gender Development.” Participants integrate key strategies for supporting children.

Longer sessions allow for more hands-on participation and Q&A.

The series can continue with topics including:
